I saved the door panels from the '61 parts car to use as templates for when the time came to make new panels. I knew it would be next to impossible for me to reproduce an exact copy using vinyl like the factory so I'm going with cloth with a little more padding but keep some of the original DNA pattern mixed into the new panels design.
When the time did come to make the panels I didn't trust the condition of the old warp panels that I saved to make the templates so I made a template from paper. I turned to my upholstery guy to make the panels. He suggest using cowlboard (black-board) instead of Masonite because it's more flexible and slightly more weatherproof. Looking through the fabric samples he had I found the 2 shades of grey of material with a vintage car feel that came very close to the color of the original panels.
