Back in the early 70's, I replaced the original rip/torn cloth back seat with a nice seat from a '62 Falcon that was sitting in the junkyard. The '62 seat never did lock down in place and would shift around all the time.
Fifty years later, the nice seat from the junkyard isn't so nice looking anymore. After stripping the old upholstery material down to the frame gave me a great opportunity to see why the '62 back seat didn't lock down to the floor. The '62 tabs are 35 in. center to center and the '60 tabs were 32 in.. The tabs are also located farther back on the floor pan. This also changes the hooks location on the seat frame.
The time had come for me to put on my thinking cap and re-inventing the wheel. I'm happy to say that my worst fear was after upholstery, things would be too thick and that I would need a crowbar to remove the seat cushion. The cushion is tight enough and stays put but not as over-tight as the factory.
I found some '64 Falcon bucket seats on the internet a few miles from home. The seats were stripped and the frames then sandblasted and painted with epoxy primer.
'61 Futura Sport Coupe reproduction upholstery with the 'Bird Head' on the back seat along with new seat emblems and new foam was obtained from the internet.
I made 2 more backing plates to fit the smaller 61/62 seat emblems to replace the larger '64 backing plates.
